A day in the life of...
Describe your role & responsibilities in one sentence.
I am a recruiter placing Compliance professionals into the Recruitment industry...confusing I know. My role is 360 which means I business develop to obtain new clients and roles, but also source candidates and run the process from start to finish! This can include: Writing adverts, term negotiation, developing candidate relationships, pitching roles and running the recruitment process - liaising with clients and candidates
How and why did you get into recruitment?
I fell into recruitment accidentally, I was previously a dancer so not remotely related. However during the pandemic work dried up and I started doing some social media bits for Camino. From there, I got to know the company, the role and the culture and decided to give it a go!
What’s the first thing you do when you get to work in the morning?
The first thing I do is, get a coffee and go through all of my emails from the day before. I then look at what interviews are taking place that day and call my candidates for some interview prep!
What’s your favourite part of the day?
Favourite part of the day varies, it depends what I have for lunch...
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging part of my job is two fold. Understanding that recruitment really IS a rollercoaster. One week it can be your best performing week and the next could be dry. It's all depending on the market which is ever changing and totally unpredictable. That and constantly feeling the need to deliver on every role which is pretty unrealistic. It's important to set expectations early on.
What keeps you motivated?
I have two motivations, one for myself and one for others. Recruitment is an excellent way to earn and save money. My goal is to buy a house with my partner, therefore I'm motivated to make that a reality. The other motivation would be the feeling and reward of making a difference to peoples lives. It gives me such pleasure to place people into a company and role I know with enable them with lots of opportunities and success.
What piece of advice would you give someone starting out in recruitment?
My advice would be to never stop learning. Speak to everyone you can, ask questions and never let the ball drop (or try not to).
